Sarawak’s natural cave bird nests 燕窩 are found in the wild - caves and in the coastal islands. All swiftlets construct their nests with a glutinous nest-cement produced by a pair of large, lobed salivary glands under the tongue. It is this nest-cement that constitutes the raw material of bird nest soup.  Most of the caves are within forest reserves. The Cave Swiflets that live here in the thousands make two types of nest, commonly referred to as white nests and black nests, both are edible and they are used to make the Chinese delicacy birds nest soup.

Health benefits of bird nest 燕窩consumption: It is said that the Chinese have been eating birds nest soup for some 400 years, in fact some reports even dated back 1,000 years ago to Tang Dynasty in China. Bird nest is a Chinese delicacy that has been claimed good health. Edible bird’s nests are glycoprotein with properties of protein as well as of carbohydrate. The total protein content is about 85% with 0.3% of fat. Other minerals present are calcium, magnesium, and iron. Blood (red) bird nests contains higher amount of iron and particularly good for pregnant ladies and elderly people.  The nest is swiftlets gel secretion which modern research has revealed health promoting qualities. It is good for the skin, lungs, digestion and it helps to prevent overall dryness while boosting the immune system for all age groups. It’s no wonder that ladies consider bird nest one of the best beauty aids.
